I have one ceramic tooth and it isn't as white as my other teeth...suggestions?

Question:
I chipped my tooth when I was about 7-8 years old and had to have half of the tooth capped with a ceramic covering, the problem is the tooth is noticeably a different colour than the rest of my teeth. A dentist recently lightened it for me, but not nearly enough...I mean I have some pretty white teeth but this one is not nearly as white...would whitening product work or is that a waste of money?

Answers:
This is a problem with ceramics on young people. The dentist had to make a guess as to how it would look when you are older and sounds like your teeth did not darken as much as most people. Your present dentist did all he could to lighten it. If he does more, it will look worse, not better. Whitening products will not do anything. Waste of money and your other teeth may get even whiter and it will look even worse. Brushing the stains off is the best it is going to get. Wish I could be more positive.
i have a chip on my front tooth and had a bonding put in to fill it in and when i drink soda or just for no reason, that piece changes colors, but i have always been able to brush it off. whitning products will work, i would suggest only doing the treatment on the tooth that needs to be whitened otherwise the rest of the teeth will get whiter and the cemented tooth wont be able to catch up.
Unfortunately you cannot whitten any restorative work, ex: crowns, fillings, bridges, ect. The only option you have is to replace the crown. The good news is that most insurance companies will allow you to have a crown replaced once every 5 years. They will be able to recreate the crown to match the shade of your other teeth perfectly!

P.S. if you plan on whitening your teeth, whiten them BEFORE you get the new crown. That way they can match the crown to the whiter shade of your teeth.
