I didn't know I was brushing off the enamel?
I thought that was pretty sturdy?
But, I'd say 1- 2 minutes as that's the last thing I do before I run out the door, literally. :) when I am not running out the door, I take my time, and floss and all that..ya know what I'm suppose to do. so Mr. Dentist is impressed the next time I visit him.. I think maybe 4-5 minutes when I am not rushed. :0 which hopefully is not anytime soon :) Although he won't when I go next time..shhh! cavity...Shhh!! quiet! lol!
it will take you a few years of constant brushing and toothpaste to wear off your enamel. Dont worry about it.
My dentist recommends two minutes each time you brush (which should be at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed -- 30 seconds for each quarter of the mouth. He also recommends a brush with soft bristles so you can brush your teeth and gums without any damage.

I bought a Sonicare electric toothbrush, and the results have been great. It has a little beep every 30 seconds and shuts off at two minutes so you can easily time how long you're brushing. Also, using the Sonicare has kept the plaque buildup so minimal the having my teeth at the dentist's office is quick and easy.
All dentists recommend that you do it for 2 minutes. Make sure you brush your teeth across, and up and down. Make sure you also floss your teeth. You should go to the dentist about every 6 months to get them clean. Hope you don't get cavaties!
