Perhaps you have something caught under your gum line, or between your teeth? Gently, brush around your gum line, then floss gently. After wards, mix a solution of 1 cup of warm water, with 1 teaspoon of salt and swish it around the area (obviously don't swallow). This will help "clean" the area for you. Usually you will be able to tell if something had lodged in the area.
Is there a bubble somewhere above/around the area?
If attempting to clean/floss the area doesn't help, then I'd make an appointment with your dentist. We've had lots of patients come in with swelling and throbbing, unable to figure out what's wrong. Usually a quick x-ray (to check for infection) and a little check with a pigtail explorer, reveals there was food particles, debris, etc in the area...causing the gums to swell, throb, etc.
Please don't let it go if you don't see improvement through the day.
*I'm not a dentist, but this is the what our dentists would suggest.
oh!! i had this just yesterday! i mean, this may not be the same thing, but i'll give it a go. It could be that you just have something stuck in your gum, between the tooth and gum, sortof just wedged in there. grab some floss and see what comes of that, otherwise check in the mirror up close and see if you can see anything that shouldn't be there!
Did you maybe brush or floss too hard? That has never happened to me, but if it doesn't go down soon you should consult a dentist. If you need dental coverage go to http://www.mybestdentalbenefits.com...
