it might be an abscess,they will cause the type of pain you describe,i had one once and thought the same thing
It sounds like your teeth are sensitive to hot and cold food and drink.If this is the case you could try a toothpaste for sensitive teeth.It could also be a more serious problem with your teeth,as I had the same problem with a tooth and left it for a month and ended up having a root canal done on that tooth.
If it is due to wisdom tooth eruption the third molar may be impacted. If you are sure it is straight you can wait for some time. In the mean time you can have hot saline mouth wash which is soothening. If your swelling is more you have to take antibiotic for which you have to see the dentist. But be sure you dont have fever. If so go to the dentist. Good luck
I had this same type of problem about a month ago where I couldn't tell if the pain was coming from the top or bottom teeth,a few weeks later the pain was more localized and it was my upper wisdom tooth it was decaying and the only thing that worked for me was clove oil it was a life saver it taste like crap but the taste goes away after a couple minutes.I made a dental appoint to get it removed but one night the pain was so bad even the clove oil wouldn't help I went to the ER and had to get antibiotics and pain meds because it was infected.
I would get some clove oil for now and take some ibuprofen for the inflammation.If it's real bad you might have to go to the ER to get antibiotics and pain pills.I would still make a dentist appointment now because they probably wont be able to get you in until a week anyway.
