My Wisdom teeth were removed 3 wks ago and still have pain and holes in my mouth. How long before I am healed?

Question:
I rinse the hole with the syrigne and salt water, but am still quite uncomforatble. I find the pain is worst in the morning and night. The holes are still not covering and all my other teeth are very sensitive. It is uncomfortable to eat. I had them out on 9 Jul and it is now the 31st. Is it normal to take this long to feel "normal" again?

Answers:
Sounds like you might have dry socket, you need to get back to your oral surgeon and let them look at it.

Wisdom teeth extractions do take longer to heal but you should see some sign of healing by now and not be in pain.

I don't remember how long it took me to get over that. But if I were you I would definitely talk to my dentist about it.
Each person is diffrent and it really depends on what point did the teeth get pulled out. If the teeth did not break through the gum line and the dentist had to cut open you gums to take them out, then it is usually a faster healing since the gum line that was covering the teeth is still there. Many cases the teeth have already broken through and the dentist has to chip or yank them out, which is what they did for me. It is very important that you keep the guages or what ever they given you in your mouth for at least a week to create a blood clot. Once that happen, don't do anything that would cause it to come loose such as smoking or drinking from a straw. It took about about 2 1/2 weeks before I could start eating hard food, even then, my mouth still hurt. It took about 1 1/2 months before the holes completely shut and I felt normal again. Normally you should see the dentist after about 2 weeks from the pulling of the teeth so they are able to see if there is any food or anything wrong with the holes. Hope this helped.
It can take a long time for the holes to grow-over. Sensitivity of the other teeth is normal and can last for a few months. IF the holes are still hurting where the tooth has been extracted--and I mean REALLY hurts, you could have a dry socket. A Dry sockets can happen when there is a problem removing the tooth and the surrounding gum tissue is damaged. Nine-days after having a large molar removed, I found myself at the Emergency room begging for pain medicine. The pain was many times worse than when the tooth was removed. In a few days it was much better.
They take about 3 months to completely heal.
