Do braces hurt?
Question:
Answers:
I won't lie to you like I was lied to. They do hurt.
The first few days hurts like CRAZY! Drinking/eating soups and foods you don't have to chew is all you can eat. After the first week or so it doesn't hurt anymore. But it does and WILL hurt when they tighten it (when they change the arch wire-the wire that connects the brackets)
Braces do hurt. Especially right after they tighten them. For the first few days you will have to eat soft food. Your teeth will hurt badly and you will feel like your teeth could fall out if you eat something hard. The pain does go away but starts all over again with another tightening
Sorry!
Whoever says they don't...well just come back and let us know what you think.
I had braces and yes sometimes they hurt because your teath are moving but its really worth the look.. like they say... Beauty can be painfull sometimes.
When you get them on the first time... try not to eat anythingwithin the first 1/2hr... i made that mistake and i ended up crying.. goodluck
No they are just ugly. they hurt when they are tightened and the first week or so u have them. U will see wen u get them
i would eat icecream mash potatoes or something soft they hurt really bad the frist 2 weeks or so
When they tighten them they do for a while. Have fun eating sticky stuff.
they werent hurt at very first but it will kick in after a few days and when they tighten them, it hurts badly afterwords
and they are quite difficult to deal with overall
I just got braces a few months ago. They only hurt the first 3-5 days, and every time you tighten them again with a thicker wire for a day or 2. The first time you get them and when you tighten them, drink soup and eat mashed potatoes--even pasta hurts. Yes, pasta. You shouldn't eat anything hard such as chips, cookies, etc. or chew taffy or other hard candies. Gum is okay as long as it is sugarless. Taking Tylenol/Advil does help, just don't drug yourself too frequently, though. ;)
Braces only hurt a few times.
They hurt when you get the wire tightened, but that only lasts a few days everytime you get it done... I just took tylenol and ate soft foods until they felt better. The pain was not unbearably horrible, just kinda annoying.
The only other time I remember them hurting was when the dentist accidentally left the wire in the back too long and it kept sticking me in the back of my cheek, but my mom called him and he let me come right in so he could shorten it.
they usually hurt for the first week after you get the wires changed but for the next 3 weeks they just sit there...you are not supposed to chew gum or anything with them but if you are careful you can get away with it
also the wires are the most painful part because as your teeth move the excess wire starts to poke out the side and jabs you in the gums and lips
so watch out
I heard that braces hurt a lot and it's not good to eat candy on the first few days. Eventually, you'll get use to the pain. What I heard from my friend you should refrain from eating from anything hard and eat something soft. If you want to eat without your teeth hurting then you should start with maybe chicken soup.
braces made my mouth a little sore when a first had them put on and after each time i had them tightened... but it wasnt a real bad pain jus kind of annoying... i took 2 advil and that seemed to help... the first day i jus kind of ate soft food that didnt require alot of chewing... and after that i was pretty much able to eat whatever i wanted... popcorn and other crunchy snacks are annoying to clean out of them though. i ate chewy candy the whole time i had them on... you just have to be careful because cleaning that out of your braces isnt fun either... hope this helpedd
dont want to scare you but here is the truth:
first week of braces are the absolute worst. your teeth are moving, so they are like, wiggly and sore and its best to eat soft things at first like, mushy soft or whatever you feel like you can eat. but then, each time they are tightened, they hurt again for like a day and rubberbands if you need them hurt too for like the first week or so. and you need to remember to wear those cause they can really make a difference on when you get your braces OFF! i know when i got mine, they like, rubbed a sore on my tongue and the inside of my cheek, but the wax is like a lifesaver and def fixes that. once your used to them, you can basically eat wahtever you want, you learn different ways to chew the food so it doesnt get stuck..
hope that helped some
no it really doesnt hurt. when you go to get them tighten it hurts a lil after but you can take somethin to make it stop. but other than that you dont have to worry about anything. =]
Yes, and I have had braces for over 2 years now and I will be getting mine off soon. The first time you'll get them, they will be sore for a week or so, and then you will start to get used to them, in your mouth and the presence of them is horrible (food in your teeth and gum issues), but you will learn to enjoy the fact that after your time with braces, you will have great looking teeth. The trick to braces is to eat soft foods for the 1st couple of days, to get your mouth used to the fact that your teeth are moving, and then, during the rest of that week, chew sugarless gum (doesn't stick to braces as much, but the first time you chew gum with braces, it'll be a pretty weird experience, but you'll get used to it after chewing constantly). Take doses of Advil and Tylenol whenever you can (like every 6 hours or so, unless the recommended time for dosage is different) to help the soreness go away quicker. Also, the key to braces (for the first few days) is drinking lots of smoothies, eating ice cream, and eating softer foods than normal, to help your teeth feel as comfortable as possible. Also, your lips will stretch a little bit because of the metal in your mouth.
You can still eat your chewy candy too, but suck on it to make sure it doesn't get stuck on your brackets. Also, drink caffeine free, caramel color free soda. It won't stain your teeth at all! And when you drink soda, use a straw to help prevent any discolorations or cavities between your teeth and brackes, along with those pesky wires...
If you want to, ask your parents to buy you a water pick. It is used instead of flossing, to clear out any leftover remnants of your meal that were stuck in your braces and teeth. It takes less time to water pick your teeth than a 5 minute flossing session. Trust me, it works so much more efficiently too!
After every "tightening" with your orthodontist, it'll hurt a lot the first time, but as you gradually get used to braces, it'll become a lot more easy. Just abide by the rules of your dentist/orthodontist, and you'll be just fine.
Hope I helped, and just remember, give it time before you get used to them, because they will hurt, but you can get through it...
I have faith in you :)
Good luck...
It will defiantly feel wired for the first week or so but not too painful at all. However, it hurts a little when they tighten the wire every six months even so it only feel tight and may be a little bit sore for a day or the longest two days. As far as eating, i think you can eat anything if you are good at your home care which includes brushing and flossing daily. I know chewing gum and pop corns being problem for braces but you can always eat pop corn carefully and chew sugar free gum too. So its really not as bad as it looks or you think its just a matter of getting used to it. The only challenge you will find is probably to floss since you might have to use other method to floss. So enjoy ur braces and remember to brush and floss every day cus you don't just wannna have a straight teeth but healthy too.
dont be scared it is very easy!! They will be a little sore AT FIRST like the first week or so but don't worry its worth that one week. If it is sore at first take some advil or tylonal which u can get at ur nearest drug store. Also you wont be able to bite into much for the first week too!! I ate a lot of macoroni and cheese and jello. But if u want somthing harder get this stuff called Orajel. It is just a numbing gel u put in ur mouth do you cant feel anything. It works immeditatly. Not only does it work for that it can be used for cankersore or anything in ur mouth. After the first week you wont even feel them in your mouth. You will be so grateful when you are finished because ur teeth will be perfect. Trust me i have had 2 phases so i have had them on twince.
