First day with braces?

Question:
My 10 year old daughter had braces put on today, and she's uncomfortable tonight. She is pretty sensitive, and says that her lip keeps rubbing against the braces and bothering her.

Any suggestions to help her? Thanks.

This brought memories from my teenage years, this is what I learn from my braces that may help you:

1)The first day (and the second) are probably the toughest, you are trying to get used to having this bunch of metal in your mouth so its naturally uncomfortable.

2) The very first day you get them, and every time you get them adjusted you might feel like your teeth are getting pulled (because they are) and thats because that is what braces do, they gradually move your teeth to re-arrange them.

3)My dentist gave a little stash of wax every visit, you just put it on your braces so your lips don't get stuck on them(and you will REALLY need that if you like playing sports).

Other than that, you need time to get used to them and time will also teach you some tricks.

Good luck!
Give her a little tylenol to ease the pain. Did the orthodontist give her any wax to put on the braces? This will help from rubbing against the inside of her cheeks.
try putting wax on her lips. I have to get braces on the 23rd.
:(
she should not eat anything and if she can use the back teeth .
If the orthadontist gave her wax put it on i stops the rubbing. If not try some tylonal or advil.
Did she get any of the wax? Have her put some on the brackets that are rubbing up against her lips. Rub a little bit between her fingers, then press onto the dry brackets. It forms a nice smooth coating, so it doesn't irriate the gum. Eventually, she'll build up calluses against the braces.

Give her some childrens Tylenol or Advil for the pain. And crush up some ice into a snow like consistancy for her to chew on. The ice helps numb the pain.

Other than that, there is really nothing she can do. After a few days, the sensitivity will go away.
did they give her wax to put on them? when i first got braces they rubed my cheaks really badly. the wax just goes over the parts that are bothering her. braces are just plain painful though.
The dental wax works great and helps so much in the rubbing. Give her some suitable pain killers for her age (I'm a teen myself so idk what a 10yr old can take). Feed her soft foods for a few days.

In the future have her take painkillers before going to have the braces tightened because it will kick in and help to stop the pain before it actually starts.
