When you get a cavity filled do they give you a shot?

Question:
Please tell me!! I'm getting one filled tomorrow and i'm really scared!Thanx!!

Answers:
I get scared to ask them for a pill.
It's not a big deal.
Most of the time yes. If it is really little it is not necessary to have a shot. You will hardly feel the shot anyway, you will be just fine! Good luck!
A shot of novacaine to numb you. I promise that it will not hurt. Just close your eyes and wiggle your toes and the shot will be over in 3 seconds. If u r really that nervous, ask for lauighing gas before you get the shot. Good Luck!
It all depends. If it is very minimal no it does not. It all depends on the dentist and how deep. I had a filling once and they didnt give me a shot but all my other ones had a shot.
Yes they do... its just a lot of pressure on your gum and they shake your lip a little bit then there isn't any pain execpt for some pressure and the scary sound of the drill with actually isn't that bad but only sounds like it cause its so close to your ear
don't be scared. You will have a small injection of lignocaine into your mouth, which numbs the area around the tooth so they can fill it without you feeling any pain. The lignocaine takes a few hours to wear off so don't eat anything really hard later on, and try not to have hot drinks or soup until the feeling has subsided. Tell the dentist you are anxious and they will explain the procedure to you. Take a friend for support or if no one is available then there is always a dental nurse there who will hold your hand!! But really, there's nothing at all to be scared of and worrying just makes you feel more anxious!
usually they numb a certain part with topical anestetic, then after thats numb, they stick a needle there and give u a shot of novicane or some other pain number. usually its in the back of your mouth though. and you don't really feel it except the pinch when they first stick it in.
HELLO,
THIS DEPENDS ON WHERE THE TOOTH IS.
FOR MOST SITUATIONS OF UPPER TEETH THE SHOT IS GIVEN NEXT T THE TOOTH BY THE GUM.
FOR A LOWER TOOTH MOST SITUATIONS CALL FR A SHOT IN THE LOWER BACK PART OF THE MOUTH.
DON'T BE WORRIED. YOUR DENTIST KNOWS EXACTLY WHERE THE SHOT NEEDS TO GO AND HOW TO DO IT CORRECTLY.
Close your eyes. It's over in a jiffy.
They normaly just give you a local. Don't wory it wont hurt much and if you feel any sharp pain let the dentist know and he will give you a little more.
Trust me, you want the shot. Yes, they do give you a shot to numb you before filling a tooth. It's not as bad as it sounds, especially if you have them give you nitrus oxide (laughing gas). You're gonna be so busy thinking about how weird your toes feel, and why you have to have toenails anyways, to worry about the shot. You'll be just fine, Sweety. Don't stress about it. Take it from me. I sweat just hearing the word "dentist"... But once you are there and going through it, it's not nearly as bad as you were scared it would be.
they can give you a shot, laughing gas or both... some places even have music you can listen to while the procedure is being done so you don't hear anything (or you can bring your mp3 player with you) And one dentist in my area has a TV on the ceiling so you can watch a movie or show while its being done.the shot feels like a pinch and its over before you know it. Personally i think xrays are more uncomfortable then the shot. i have had one filling done with no shot or gas and it really wasn't that bad either but i wouldn't suggest that for a first timer.good luck if you just relax you will be just fine
Yeah, they give you a shot with a big needle and it hurts a lot. If you have a nice dentist they do a good job of hiding the needle. If you don't have a good dentist, then they wave the needle in your face before they stick it in there. You need the shot though to take the pain away when they are drilling at your tooth to get the cavity out. Ask for another shot if you feel any pain.
They're supposed to; I used to go to a dentist who didn't numb anything and let me tell you, fillings were pure torture (though not as bad as the time I got two teeth pulled at once). If you don't get a shot or you can feel it for some other reason, it feels like a really strong vibration inside your tooth. It sounds like you've never had a filling before, so I'll also warn you of this: it's really noisy and you will get wet (they put water on the drill to keep it cool, but it ends up splashing everywhere).
