Why is mouthwash considered a good thing?

Mouthwash isn't very good, but that's not really why. People think it gets rid of bad breath, but it can actually dry out your mouth and make it worse, plus it just targets your mouth (a lot of bad breath originates in the throat). Most mouthwash also burns really badly, which is never a good thing.
ya, your mouth is an open sespool of germs and bacteria. so mouthwash is a good thing cause it kills alot of those germs. kinda weird question but ok...
Because if you didn't use it people would be turning their head and backing up when you talk to them.
