It never lasts because you don't immediately brush your teeth after you eat and drink. If you want to drink sodas or anything that has color, you need to use a straw. If you really want it really white, have your teeth bleached and brush after every meal, snack and drink.
I suppose the cheapest way is to gargle peroxide - I've never done it, but I suppose you gargle first and then brush your teeth; also you might want to get a whitening tooth paste and refrain from drinking a lot of coffee, tea, soda, etc that actually stains your teeth. Smoking also creates stains. I've heard that Whitestrips also help, too!
