I just got my braces yesterday, (July 25,2007) how do i make the pain go away?

Question:
yesterday while the orthodontist was putting on my braces they never hurt, but the pain has caught up with me today! ouch, any one out there going through the same?

Answers:
Yeah, I remember the pain. I had all the stuff too. The stuff before braces, the braces, and the retainer and mess. So yeah, I know all about the pain. What i always did was take Advil or Tylenol. You can also try Tylenol PM at night time. After a few days, the pain will gradually decrease, and you will find that you will be able to eat more foods you can't eat right now.

Also, your orthodontist probably gave you a list of foods to avoid. I'd definitely follow the rules, especially for right now. You can try different milkshakes for right now, if you find it hard to eat much of anything. Just keep trying different foods each day to see how it works.

Hang in there, you'll be fine!
3 ibuprofen worked for me, 600 mg.
chew surge free gum
In a short time, the pain will go away. It's an unfortunate part of the process but just realize that in a few years you are going to look superb with a very nice smile and this temporary pain will all be worth it. Then people will admire your new look. Hang in there and congratulations!
well im actually getting mine off next week what i usually do when it hurts is i either used oragel which worked pretty good... also next time you get an adjustment ask for the chew thing its kind of like a mouth pieace it works wonders. you chew and it losens you teeth making them eisier to move causing less pain... another thing soft foods are a life saver... you ould also try a milkshake or ice cream to sort of numb the teeth.
Use either asprin, ibuprofen, or advil [some kind of over the counter pain medicine]. Eat plenty of soft foods like apple sauce, mashed potatoes, cereal that has been in the milk for a while, etc. Don't try to over work your teeth for about the first week. Trust me the pain will be gone withing 3-4 days. Also, if you are home sleep and lay down when ever your mouth hurts. For some reason lying down helped the pain go away for me.
Good luck with your braces. I've been through it before, in fact i get mine off in about a month and im really excited. But I know exactly how you feel.Just to let you know, if i were you, take a pain pill before you get them tightened too because that hurts a little. Not as bad as getting them on, but just in case.
Make sure to brush your teeth thoroughly because the plaque and stuff builds up around the braces.
Anyways hope you feel better and everything goes well with your braces and teeth.

It took me 3 weeks to get to where i could eat normally again. After a couple days eating soup though i had to find other things to eat that were soft. You have to work at it, chewing does help just dont put yourself in pain doing it. Take tylenol or something similar for your pain as often as it allows. The pain your feeling is your teeth breaking away from their current positions in order to be moved into the new position. It will get better. Get yourself a waterpik this will help you alot with removing food out of your braces such as rice. Rice really gets stuck and lettuce. I dont pay attention to all the foods im not supposed to eat like peanuts, chips, popcorn etc. You just have to be careful how you eat it. I did reduce my sugar in take due to cavities. www.archwired.com is a site for people with braces. Lots of information on there as well.
