Answers:
I have total dental phobia, too. I let my teeth get so bad I needed two root canals at the same time and was popping Vicodin like Pez in horrible pain. I tried concious sedation.
It did not work. I finally found a dentist to put a needle in my arm and knock me out. The crowns are horrible and need to be replaced. I found a dentist (lady) who keeps her little handicapped dog in the office. She sits the dog on my lap and I hold it the whole time. I'm still freaking out, but I am holding on to the little dog(Honey). The dentist lady weighs
about 80 pounds and I could easily snap her kneck if she hurt
me.(lol - I wouldn't hurt a woman, but punched a male dentist in the mouth once)
I hate to say it, but you have to go. You have to get your teeth fixed.
If anything happens to my dentist or her dog I will be back in the same boat. hope I've learned that taking care of my teeth is important and continue to do so.
I went hysterical at age 6.
Please.
I was in a similar situation. I would be upfront with your dentist. Let them know you are nervous. If you are scarred that they will yell at you for letting your teeth get were they are (I too felt this way), approach it before they say anything. Tell them you know you let them get bad, and you want to take care of it now. I found that when i did this, I felt more comfortable, and they new how to approach the situation. I am sure it will be fine.
I too used to get "freaked out" going to the dentist but it helped to bring a friend who could calm me down or just be there for support. Also, it helped to let the staff know how I felt. They were more gentle and understanding. Lastly, if I were to undergo painful surgery like yourself I would have them first give me enough laughing gas and rub some topical novicane on the gum to numb the area so I wouldn't care or feel what they were doing. I'd ask that my friend be allowed to stay in the room while all this was going on. Most dentist's will oblige your requests - at least I never had any problems. Good Luck with your apt today :) It will be over before you know it!
Hi ,

It's normal to be nervous about this stuff. Hell, no one LOVES going to the dentist. Just let him know you are nervous and "don't do well with dentists offices". They deal with HEAPS of patients who feel the same way and have ways of accommodating. I ASSURE you if you do this, after today ALOT of your fear will be gone. To reassure yourself, just think of how many people you already know who have survived the dentist. If they can do it ( and they have ) YOu can too!
Hi, I can totally relate. My situation was because of a very bad dentist experience. I agree, let your dentist know how you feel, most likely you are not the first patient to be anxious and afraid. In my case I chose to get put under anethsia and that way when I woke up it was all done. I am from Canada so this was covered under health care for me. Good luck and hang in there, you are not alone.. <3
It's okay. :-) The dentist will make your mouth better! Don't be nervous... And it's not your fault you made your mouth get bad. Mine's probably even worse! About a year ago I was really scared because I had to get 3 fillings. I was really scared, but it wasn't that bad. Lol after they gave me a sugar free lollipop! :-D (But I couldn't have it until the next day sadly) Don't be worried,it may hurt ... But after you'll have a better smile!
nothing to be embarrased.even dentists let their teeth to rot.we commoners cannot assess teeth decay.look at it positively.you are going to get your probs sorted and then from there good oral health starts.
You are going to be fine. It is very normal to feel this way and alot of people do so the people at your dental office are use to this. I have worked on so many patients that had a terrible fear of being in the dental chair but we have ways of making them more comfortable. We would prescribe them meds to make them relax a little more. If you are that scared then you should ask your dentist if he could give you a prescription for something to make you more relaxed. Good Luck and don't worry about a thing. You will be just fine.
i totly understand! i hate dentists! they are soooo freaky, my old dentist had extremly bad stinky breath and i used to literly gag wen going to get my teeth fixed thank god he's not my dentist anymore lol
