I didn't have dental coverage last year because my job only provided medical, not optical or dental. If you have a dentist you've been using, i urge you to do that unless they are the ones not willing to take you. Reason being, they are very good at "needing new xrays" when you don't have insurance to cover it... and for a cleaning, your bill could end up.. oh. i don't know... $180. Go on yahoo and click the "local" tab. Put in your zip code and search dentist. Find someone else who has good ratings (there is a rating scale on there, some people actually fill it out!) and call them up. Ask questions, such as what you can bring with you to decrease the cost (if you have dental records elsewhere, you can get those from your dentist and bring them over. This is especially helpful if they decide you need x rays and you still have valid ones at your old docs), and be sure that they know you are uninsured. Finally, you can search community colleges with a dental plan that offer routine procedures, such as cleanings. They typically do it for very cheap.

Find another one. Most of them will take patients regardless of whether or not they have insurance. There are probably more people without insurance than with it so you should be able to find one, especially if you can pay in full the day of service.
Call around. Many do actually.

i never heard of a dentist or doctor that did not take cash. most prefer it now days because they don't want to wait for payment.
They do! you just have to find one that will take you... but dental work is very expensive.
My old dentist in NY took patients with no insurance. You must be going to the wrong dentist. Maybe he has had too many experiences with uninsured patients not paying him. Keep checking around. You will eventually find a dentist who will take your cash.

PAYMENT BY THE INSURNCE C. TAKES A LONG TIME, 30 DAYS OR LONGER. CASH OR CREDIT CARD IS IMMEDIATE. DENTISTS WOULD RATHER TAKE NO INSURANCE AND HAVE EVERYONE PAY CASH.
WHEN CALLING TO MAKE ANAPPOINTMENT SAY TO THE FRONT DESK YOU WILL PAY IN CASH THAT DAY.
ANY DENTIST WHO'D REFUSE AN APPOINTMENT WOULD BE STUPID.
SOME EXPENSIVETRETMENTS REQUIRE CARE CREDIT WHICH ALL DENTISTS TAKE.
Dental Insurance is the biggest myth in medicine. If you were to add up the premiums, co payments, deductables, uncovered services, policy limitations and a maximum of $1000/yr. it is the same as paying it all out of your pocket anyways. I recommend that you get a low interest credit card that has air-miles and go to any dentist the takes credit cards. With a credit card you can negotiate with the dentist, with insurance the dentist must follow the schedule benefits because of a law know as "Most Favoured Nation" - if he were to charge less then the scheduled fees he would have to do it for everyone. After you pay off the credit card you do NOT have to pay premiums anymore. Pass this on to anyone that has to pay for their own dental nsurance.
