The germs make acid that eats your enamel. Too much brushing can cause further cavities as I've heard. There really isn't anything you can do. Your dentist has to fill in that hole or your tooth will rot away. Try to save your other teeth from future damage by brushing 2-3 times a day, flossing, limiting sugar intact and reframing from acidic drinks like coke because it eats your enamel away and that process is irreversible.
