I have a question about my wisdom tooth, can anyone help?!?

My lower left wisdom tooth is causing me some bother. For a few days now its causing me alot of pain and there is swelling on my face and i can hardly open my jaw. The surrounding gum is swollen, i think it may be infected and be impacted. I have been to the dentist and been given some anti-biotics to take but am just concerned that with the swollen gum it could be a cyst which have heard can lead to cancer. I was wondering what thew symptoms and odds are of me having a cyst in the jaw. I would apprecaite some advise if anyone could help, thank-you.

I can assure you that a cyst is 99% time without any immidiate pains. You are unlikley to have that as you are suffering from a suddon pain and your symptoms are classic for Pricoronities: Wisdom tooth infection. Rinse with some Clorhexidine mouth wash 2/day

NO IT DOESN'T CAUSE CANCER I NEVER GOT MY WISDOM TEETH IN BUT I KNOW PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THEM PULLED THEY ARE OK

wisdom teeth always cause people bother i have never known one person to have a wisdom tooth that has not had to be removed,if you have only just started taking the tablets give them time to work,not easy i know,try to avoid too hot or too cold drinks and food it will only aggravate the area,the swelling will go down its so common,try to be patient. Hope that you will soon be better.

Cysts are not linked with cancer!

You sound like you are having a classic infection to me. Your dentist will have ruled out any other complications when they examined you and prescribe the antibiotics.

Follicles sourround the crowns of buried teeth, and they can grow to become cysts (follicular cysts). More commonly, and just before they burst and break the surface, the follicle can become infected, and blow up like a balloon. This is likely what you are experiencing.
