10 tooth bridge?
Question:
Answers:
most bridges and crowns on the front teeth have metal on the back by your tongue. I wouldn't worry to much about any noticeable metal on the front of the bridge.
In my opinion, it is not always necessary to have metal on the back of front crowns/bridges. We do front crowns/bridges in our office and they do not have the metal backing. They are porcelain fused to a noble metal base and the margin (the top part of each unit) is metal and if you are prepped correctly, the margin can be hidden under your gum. Now, in my opinion, 3 teeth on either side is excessive. I hope your dentist had a really good reason for this. The only other alternative for anterior (front) bridge is a procelain maryland bridge. I hope that maryland is the proper name. The pontics (missing teeth) are made of porcelain and there are "wings" on either side that is "glued to perfectly good teeth on both sides where the teeth are missing. Other then that, I do not know of any other bridges that could suit your situation.
Just keep in mind, 1-you are already prepped for a 10 unit bridge and the tooth structure taken away from each healthy tooth is gone forever, so now they definately need crowns & 2-you are paying big bucks for this bridge, do not get out of that dental chair until and only until you are satisfied with the look. Be sure to look at bridge on before it is cemented in place permanently. You don't have to look at it laying down in the chair, have them sit you up. Look in the hand mirror and smile and take a good look at the shape of the teeth; the color of the teeth (important) and the size of the teeth. It's your money, you need to be happy because they will be with you for awhile.
