Don't worry you'll be able to chew in about 4 days or longer depends and varys for everyone
You won't chew "normally" until the braces are removed. However, as time passes you will become accustomed to the braces and will learn to chew most foods. My tips for braces?
1. Having braces tightened hurts. Taking 200 mg of naproxen sodium (Aleve) 30 minutes before the tightening may help. Check with your parents or doctor if you have questions about taking Aleve.
2. A Waterpik (http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/p/b0... or http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/i/11... may help you keep your braces clean. The cordless model is about $20; the deluxe model is about $40.
3. Your orthodontist may give you wax strips to keep your braces from abrading (rubbing against) your cheeks. Use them. Wax strips are wonderful.
4. Make sure you aren't allergic to latex if the orthodontist puts latex rubber bands on your braces (this may come later).
The reason your braces hurt when they are tightened is because the roots of the teeth must be "broken loose" so the teeth can be shifted. Your teeth may feel loose for a couple of days after tightening.
