My mom said something that sounds weird, but could be true.?

Question:
I just resently went to the dentist were they numbed my mouth, but it took a lot a anestia(sorry for the spelling), and well she said that sometimes it won't take because people are under a lot of stress, and i have been, but is that true?

Answers:
Yes, it is absolutely true, I've seen this happen many times. It can be due to stress, a faster heart rate, infection in the area etc.. Usually giving a bit more anesthetic works, but not always.
I guess so
also if you have a lot of infection , it tends to push the Novocain or pain killer out of the gum,
my wife had her wisdom teeth removed long time ago, and they used a lot of anestesia, and wasnt working so she felt most of the pain
Yes sometimes you feel the pain but then they'll give you another shot
I think it has to do with the skill of the dentist. I went to a dentist for years who used local anesthesia but I still felt a lot of pain when he worked on my teeth. With my current dentist, I never feel anything when he numbs my mouth. Nothing changed except the dentist.
I don't know if stress has anything to do with it, but some people just require additional anesthetic. It's just the way your body metabolizes it.
No it has nothing to do with stress. There are about 3 types of anaesthetic in Dentistry of wich two of them are more familia..there is General and Local.sometimes you need two injection dose because 1 dose isnt enough for you...to control your pain.
Its very normal and acceptable. It has something to do with your body but not stress.
Some people respond well to novacaine while other do not.
I find corbacain (sp) much faster and not as long lasting.

There are lots of reasons why it might not work or you may require extra. Some people just can't get numb in the first place (this is usually due to variation in where their nerves are located), but for people who are able to get numb, stress can cause your body to resist the anesthesia .My dentist also told me once that teenagers usually need extra because apparently their nerves are bigger and closer the the surface of their teeth than those of adults. You also may encounter problems if the dentist isn't very skilled at injecting the anesthesia or if they don't allow enough time for it to take effect (this can take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes; it varies among people).
