The most effective mouthwash is salt water.

If you have already developed a pocket of infection (abcess), then it won't get rid of the problem. However, you can usually feel irritation or pain from a vulnerable site before things become this serious.

Brushing can be ineffective, if your brush is too soft or too hard, or your technique is unsuitable for the way your teeth are set out. Depending on your diet, it might be important for you to brush after each meal. Some foods adhere to the teeth, and become difficult to remove later. Rinsing with warm salty water after eating, can help to remove them.

You could try using floss, when you brush and after meals. This gets into places that the bristles of a brush can't reach. Your gums might bleed a bit at first, but they will toughen up with practice, because damaging material is being removed.
go to the dentist he will do something with your sore tooth, such as a filling or take it out.brush twice a day ,use a good mouthwash for infections and floss
Sorry to be a nag mate, but the only way to prevent gum infections is to maintain a really high standard of oral hygiene
brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, floss the teeth as well, flossing removes a multitude of sins from in between the teeth that your toothbrush just cannot reach, and rinse with mouthwash, if you already have a gum infection try using mouthwash designed for this condition, Corsodyl is a mouthwash for gum disease and really helps.
Try investing in some disclosing tablets, these stain the teeth and high light the areas we often miss whilst brushing.
Make regular visits to see your dentist for a professional clean, even though your cleaning at home, your toothbrush cannot remove the hard build up of tartar which builds up on the teeth.
If gum disease is not stopped in it's tracks it results in the loss of bone in the supporting structure of the tooth and tooth loss is normally the end result!
Flossing is just as necessary as tooth brushing these days because so much food can get caught between teeth which causes bacteria and infection etc and helps the build up of tartar which causes gum disease.
