What to do before wisdom teeth surgery?
Question:
1) Can i drink alcohol (not drunk just some wine) and smoke pot on the day before surgery before the 12 hour fasting?
2) Should i brush my teeth and rinse with Listerine before i go in to have my teeth extracted? Or just let it go?
3) Any other input, advice, or recommendations?
I know this question has been asked quite a lot, but I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for so i greatly appreciate all responses.

You need to ask for a brochure of what to do and what not to do from your surgeon. The following are what I know:
- You cannot eat anything 12 hours prior to the surgery.
- You cannot drink any liquid 8 hours prior to the surgery.
- You can brush your teeth and rinse with Listerine before going to the surgery. But you can't use Listerine at least 48 hours after the surgery. Within 48 hours after the surgery you still need to brush your teeth but do it really carefully and make sure you don't touch the extraction areas. Rinse slowly with warm water mixed with salt. Remember, DO NOT SPIT.
- You can smoke before you go to the surgery but you can't smoke at least 48 hours after the surgery.
- You cannot suck through a straw, you cannot spit, and you cannot blow your nose at least 48 hours after the surgery.
- You know who your best friend will be a few days after the surgery? Pain medication! I took Advil every 8 hours.
- You can't eat any solid food for a few days after the surgery. So, stock up with soup, ice cream, etc.
- When you drink the soup make sure they are not too hot because it will dissolve the blood clot and it is BAD.
- Put ice packs on and off, like 10 minutes at one time then wait for half an hour then put it on again, etc.
Well, like I said, get a brochure from your surgeon for detail instructions. Good luck!
i just got 2 out 2 days ago do not drink it will make your bleeding worse smoking is fine i did and i just brushed my teeth as normal you dont have to do anything special
advice: make sure u are stocked up on soups and icecream also have some ice packs for swelling, and smoking is not allowed(i broke that rule 6 times already >.< but i put gauze in and rinsed with salt water its still worng though >.<) after the procedure until ur healed up you could get dry socket and y cant go alone u have to have someone to take you home and u have to rest the whole day and keep your head elevated and i think u have to keep the gauze in your mouth for atleast 2 hrs after to help the blood clot form and you cant exert yourself for a couple days otherwise the blood clot could come out and cause problems
if you are having a surgery, the sergeon or nurs will provide you with a list of the DOs and DONTs. If they do not, ask for one.
Drinking will make you bleed more and make it more difficult to clot. Smoking in general is not good for your oral health, and I don't recommend smoking pot, but it would not make as much of a difference smoking before than after. If you were to smoke after you could get a dry socket.
1) Shouldn't hurt in moderation, one or two glasses of wine should be metabolized overnight. However, I would suggest drinking about a quart of water as the last thing you consume before your 12 hour fast starts.
2) Please do brush. The mouthwash isn't a bad idea either. You're going to have two or four open wounds in your mouth, why not minimize the amount of bacteria and plaque that can get in those wounds?
3) When I got mine removed, I spent the several days before taking a little time to meditate. While meditating, I visualizing them just sliding out of my jaw. There is, of course, no way to know if that helped or not, but my wisdom teeth surgery went so well that I quit taking the pain medications two days after my wisdom teeth were removed.
