Is vitrebond necessary for filling?

Question:
My dentist suggust vitrebond for filling (cost is $69 per teeth for vitrebond). What is it? Is it safe? Is the cost justfied ?

Answers:
Vitrebond is used as a lining in large fillings. The procedure would be considered an indirect pulp cap. Which just means the cavity is getting close to the nerve, so before placing the filling they would use a layer of vitrebond. If the doctor recommended using it , I would let him. You could have it done without, but that may cause you problems later. Vitrebond releases fluoride to help protect the tooth and nerve. The cost is pretty standard. It is safe and it will reduce the possibility of needing a root canal on that tooth in the future. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions feel free to send me a message.
