Got gum disease... hurts whilst brushing + other troubles!?
Question:
might have seen my other question about me not burshing my teeth for a while and i started a few days ago...
anyway i brush and use listerine afterwards. Is it bad if you use listerine for more than 30 seconds ? i just feel the longer its in my mouth the more it can kill hehe... when you have the listerine in your mouth for around 20 seconds it doesn't sting as much.. is that because its gone to all the right places or what?
when i brush it really friggin hurts my gums. i have a high pain threshold so i just close my eyes and just brush away even though im in a lot of pain... do these areas need more brushing or should i just stop if its reaaally painful?
my jaw kinda hurts too?
yeh yeh i'll do see a dentist soon...but i just wondered if i could get some more info :)
peace

Maybe you have paradontose, maybe I'm wrong. Hurting and bleeding gums are major sypthoms of that dental disease. There are lots products in medical stores like special tothpaste and soft tothbrushes.
If you already have gum disease, brushing and using listerine wont help. You have to go to the dentist so they can remove the plaque under your gums, that you cant get with a brush. Stay on a cleaning regime of every 4 months for at least a year. Flossing really helps keep your gums healthy, along with brushing. Also, I would invest in a electric toothbrush. My dentist recommended Sonicare. One more thing, if you are young, have your blood sugar checked, gum disease is a sign of diabetes. When I started taking glucofage for my diabetes, to control it, my gums got alot better.
Listerine works because it has 26% aalcohol in it which kills germs and bacteria. You will find the alcohol content labeled on the bottle under its ingredients section. It stops burning if you keep it in your mouth awhile because the alcohol content becomes weaker as it is neutralized by the increase of your saliva. You should not gargle longer than recommended with Listerine, or any other mouthwash because it can actually irritate your mouth. Alcohol quickly kills germs. This is why alcohol is often rubbed on wounds--to kill the germs that would cause irritation and infection. Listerine does the same thing for your mouth with a more diluted degree of alcohol.
