Right when you get braces on, it won't hurt at all. But as the day progresses your teeth with start to hurt. And yes, it will be BAD. The first night even if i touched my teeth lightly it hurt. So just be very careful. You should eat stuff like apple sauce, yogurt, soup, very liquid stuff. Nothing that you have to bite. I didn't brush my teeth the first night i got them. After that it will still hurt a bit, but it will go away within a week. Then you can eat normally.
Your orthodontist may say not to chew gum or chewy candy or stuff like that, but it really is OK. I chew gum all the time and nothing has happened. Just make sure that you clean your teeth regularly.
It is very important that you clean your teeth while you have braces or you can get nasty stains on them when they are taken off. A sign you can see if you are cleaning your teeth well is if your gums are swollen and big. It may be like that the first few days you have them or after you get them tightened.
Tightening hurts after you get it done, but not as bad as the first day, by far. My friend and I had the same pattern when we got braces. The first tightening hurt, and then the second one didn't. But I don't know if its like that for everyone.
Just get colors you like. Blue or pink or white or purple, just not yellow or green. If you get yellow people will think that you have yellow teeth, because that's how it seems when you are talking and they just glance at your teeth. If you get green people will think that you have broccoli or something stuck in your teeth. My friend said that to me when i got green. Hahah.

I remember i had braces for a year and a half. The first day, they hurt really bad. Like it was so sore, that it caused me a fever and headache. But then the next day was alright. Also, when you tighten them, they hurt too.
Purple and pink were my favorite colors =)
Hmm..I haven't had braces but I heard from many people who did - they said it doesn't hurt to get them, but it does hurt a bit when they tighten your braces. And for colors.. just not red? A few of my friends and I thought when you have a mouse full of red braces it looks like your gums are bleeding. :( But, that's only my opinion.
ive had mine a year and a half.. i promise.. they dont hurt, like OW! but they make your mouth ache for about two days only right after u get them on and thats it. it doesnt hurt to get them on. my orthodontist gave me this little mouth thingy that i could bite down on when my mouth ached and that was fine. its really not that bad.
i got them when i was 14 and they didn't hurt like everyone said they would ... it is a little uncomfortable when they tighten them every month but no biggy trust me its well worth it to get braces and o0o keep this in mind! WEAR YOUR RETAINER AFTER YOU GET YOUR BRACES OFF! I didn't and i need braces again at 21 (not really bad but they aren't straight) please listen to me and wear it... it sucks but if you just wear them at night its alot easier and ALOT cheaper! o0o and i always liked my favorite football teams colors or pink and green was really cute too but try to stay away from white or light colors b/c they will stain... expically glow in the dark it stains real bad but all in all they weren't that bad...
well for some people it hurts and for some, it doesn't . like my friend angel (i love yah girl) it didn't hurt at all but some of my other friends said that it hurt the next day. I am getting braces in 2 days and i am scared!! i've been reading and most people said that it hurt and only 1 person said it didn't hurt at all! well all i gotta say iz to get bold and be strong about it not a wimp about it! :-l :-)
no not really- theyll be a pain if you get certain appliances, and theyll be sore for a couple days, but youll be fine.
ASK YOUR DOC ABOUT SPEED BRACES! i have those on right now, and while they're a lil more expensive, they're well worth it!! they're 3 times smaller than a regular bracket, and there's no annoying rubber bands!! plus getting your wire tightened is a snap! ask anybody about getting their regular braces tightened, and you'll know why thats important!
plus, i showed in 6 months the progress usually shown in a year! they have a much gentler push, but it's also much more steady and consistent, making it hurt less.
so make sure you look into that! you may also look into invisalign, but that will only help if you dont need much work done on your teeth. otherwise, i'd say get braces, since invisalign is only effective to an extent. good luck! =)
OH I FORGOT! sorry, but the speed brackets don't need rubber bands, or need to be tied in, so no colors. =/ but really you're not missing much they get in the way and they stain, like she said^^^^^^
yes they can at first. It really all depends on the severity of your teeth. No matter what for the first two days i would say your teeth will be sore just because they will be loose. This will make it really hard to chew solid foods. But normally the only other times braces hurt is when you get a new wire in (which again only depends on the severity) Also, they may give you wax to put over the braces in spots where you get sores which will help with cuts. BUT, what i found, was that if you use wax, your mouth never gets used to it and will constantly ache, so if you tough it out at first and not use the wax, your sores will heal so they don't interfere with the braces. Good luck, and just don't get gold ones.
It doesn't hurt getting them on, but I would take some Motrin or other painkiller after dinner because your teeth will then feel sore. It goes away after about a day. Don't sweat it- only 96 out of 100 kids need braces or some kind of ortho work. Get your favorite color and don't worry if you don't like it that much once it's on because you can change it every month.
Braces only hurt for two days after you first get them, I'd recommend eating chicken broth so its not so painful, and you don't have to chew it =D

I I'm going to be getting braces too and I know they hurt because other people have informed me they do. I think the color of braces you get should be a color that suts you.
You will feel sore. Only for a day or so every time they they tighten them. Tylenol will fix that. Other then that you get used to them and you wont even feel them after about a week. Its not painful at all. As for colors get what you want. I recommend not going for holiday...green and red for Christmas or Black and Orange for Halloween is never a bright idea. Stick with you favorite color you wear a lot, or just light colors. But treat it like you would treat you favorite rings or necklace you have a permanent accessory might as well make it what you like.
i have them and they are sore after you get them on and after they get tightened. So on the day you get them i suggest either eating alot before or alot as soon as you get them on.
Putting them on doesn't hurt at all, they use this thing to hold your mouth open. And they should give you wax to put on if the wire or the brackets are irritating you. And as far as colors go, they have alot of variety, like for valentines day in feb. i got red and pink, and in july i thought about red and blue (don't ever do white cuz they make your teeth look yellow). But you can change them like every 6 weeks!

they don't hurt getting them on but maby 2 hours after they kill for about 2 to 3 days depending how you take pain...;. don't get white or clear they stain easily and black makes your teeth look yellow

other tips:
after you eat anything, go to the bathroom and make sure there's nothing stuck in them.
don't use whitening toothpaste.
don't listen to the orthodontist- you can eat whatever. (popcorn, gum, etc, just be careful with caramels)
as far as colors go, i wouldn't get them because it's harder to brush and they don't look as good, i think.
im getting my braces off tomorrow and ill tell you i am relieved and sad. they dont hurt too badly. but they do hurt when you get power chains. it only hurt for about 2 or 3 days and if you get some advil you should be fine. dont worry. braces arent that big a deal and be sure not to eat sticky food in public cause food gets trapped in braces and its really embarrasing.
