Need advice on chipped teeth?

Question:
I have 2 front teeth that are chipped: one badly chipped tooth that I've always wanted to fix, and another recently chipped one that's not horrible but kinda ruins the smile. I would imagine dental insurance won't cover for a veneer because it's just cosmetic. How about a crown? Which do you recommend? Any other suggestions? I've heard about porcelain crowns, how natural looking are they? and how much? If you could give me some pros & cons for each option with the price, that would be great. Thank you in Advance.

Answers:
Unless necessary your insurance won't pay for a crown. They tooth needs to be drastically reduced to fit the crown on. You're basically ruining a perfectly healthy tooth for cosmetic reasons. Porcelain veneers would be the way to go. See if your dentist would let you finance it. CareCredit is usually good about extending credit for dental work. It's what my office uses.
Hi! I have been in dentistry for over 25 years. At your age a veneer is a better option. The dentist will remove a small amount of nature tooth to fit a "jacket" to correct the chipped tooth. A crown has to cut the tooth down to a small shape and this is not an option at your age. This needs to be replaced in 12-15 years and as your gums recede you will see the metal line of the crown and be miserable. Also as you get older you can have issues with the tooth and need root canal or an implant. A veneer is about 1/2 the cost of a crown and Ins may pay a portion of it. Anyway you look at it a veneer is a better option and keeps more integrity of the tooth which you will need as you get older. Don't even consider a crown if a veneer will solve the problem. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
Both of my front teeth have been chipped for years. I had bonds done and they are just fine. Crowns require removing the nerve from the tooth and then placing a fitted crown on, price I got was about $1500 per tooth. Veneers are just plain ugly and phony looking. I think my bonds were about $400.

PS I hope Marie never gets near my teeth! You CANNOT get a crown without a root canal and they do NOT need replaced.
Most dental insurance policies seem to cover 50% on crowns. But you are right, anything purely cosmetic may not be covered at all.
I had to get a crown on a "smile" tooth. And the dentist did everything possible to make sure it matched my other teeth. She took a close-up picture of my surrounding teeth so I could get a perfect match.
If the teeth are chipped then a crown will be necessary anyway.
Oh! And to clarify what gazeygoo said...
A root canal (the procedure to remove a nerve from the tooth) is NOT required for a crown. But yes, a crown is just as pricey as any other work.
Crowns are great if you NEED one but they are pricey too. The last time I had one it was about $1500.00. Actually I think it was more. I had a minor chip on a front tooth one time and my dentist was able to just sand it down and it looked great. My advise is go to a dentist and see what the best options for you are.
i think you should get an insurance or health plan, if you want to get them fixed it would cost a lot without a plan. My friend chipped her tooth and the dentist put some hard paste thing that dries and becomes hard.
