What is the average number of patients that a general dentist office in the USA would have?

Question:
This includes ones that have been in business 3 or more years. If any data is available for other time periods, please let me know.

Answers:
Most consultants estimate a single doctor with one hygienist working a 4 day week can maintain about 900 patients. Most patients are seen twice per year for re-care.

Of course, some do more or less depending on their fees, time spent with each, and how "hands-on" the doctor is.
I know an older dentist, who has a smaller office and less advanced technology, but he is booked everday. He has over 3000 patients. I don't know how many visit on a regular basis though.
