Cavity filling questions?

Question:
I just got my first cavity filled today and it is on one of my back teeth. They said it was a small one and I never had any pain with it, but they said it was better to get it fixed early.
Well I got it filled today and now my bite feels off. It is like I cant bite down all the way.
Is this normal? Or do I need to call them in morning have then take another look at it?

Answers:
Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. this is normal if you had sedation and you couldn't feel the tooth when you left the dental office. Often your bite is off because you can not feel it. The bite is high and needs to be adjusted to prevent toothache or jaw pain. Call your dentist first thing and have him adjust the occlusion. This takes less than 5 minutes and in the future, when the dentist asks you to bite down to see if the filling is high, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth and then bite down. This will put your teeth in their nature alignment and help him know it is correct when he checks it. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
ask them if you can come in so that can shave down your filling...if its composit (white filling) , but if its amalgum (silver) then it should start feeling better soon as amalgum takes longer to harden.
It is probably what they will call "high". That means the filling may need to be adjusted slightly...It's no big deal. It won't take them any time at all. =)
It's hard to tell if it's high when you are numb. Just give the office a call and tell them you need it adjusted.
