Dentists refer teeth by numbering them from centre to corner, as 1 to 8 and specify whether it is in upper jaw or lower jaw and in left side or right side by putting lines around the number. For example !_4 represents right upper 4 and 3_! represents left upper right.
Hi! The way MOST dentists do is is using the most common number system of 1-32.
Starting with the upper right wisdom tooth, and counting to the left is 1-16. 1-16 are 3rd(wisdom)molars.
Then drop down to the lower left, #17-32
Lower left #17 and #32 are 3rd(wisdom) molars. Got it?
Upper right wisdom #1, 2nd molar #2, 1st molar #3, 2nd premolar#4, fisrt pre-molar #5, canine#6, right lateral #7 and Front incisor, #8. Continue counting using the Numbers to 32 and subsiture left for right and upper for lower.
It's pretty easy once you let the hang of it. AND it is easier than the old fashion quandrant system that has plaqued dentistry for years. lol If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
