Hi Kara! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. Thisis a tough problem and you must brush 2 times a day with a whitening toothpaste for at least 2 minutes to start. Now do this.
Buy either whitening strips or bleaching trays at teh drug store(about 40.00) but last a while. DO NOT brush before you use them, just rinse very throughly, the fluoride in the toothpaste will stop the bleach from working. This is a special dental bleach so don't try to make your own. NO homemade is strong enough.
Use the trays as directed or until stains are gone. You must brush at least twice a day to keep the tar off or use a filtered cigerette. I'm not preaching about quitting, enough have done that.
This should do it. In the future, do a touch up about 2 times a month and that sould remove stains. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
A Philips Sonicare toothbrush will shift most stains. They even guarantee that or you can get your money back. I use one and they are absolutely fantastic. They are a little pricey, but well worth the money. I do not need to see the hygienist as often, so I have more than saved the cost of the toothbrush. I don't know whether it will remove tar from teeth as I'm a non smoker. Even so, the toothbrush is well worth the money it is definitely not a gimmick.
the best way to remove those stains is stop smoking; use H2O2 (peroxide), avoid drinking soda and/or food aditives
