The only safe way is to use dental floss just as some pals rightly pointed out. I would advise you not to use tooth picks as the tip may get stuck and cause more harm than good.
However, after using the dental floss, you may as well use your tooth brush to remove any tiny particles and have a mouth rinse.

You can get dental sticks, they are made out of wood and will be able to get anything out your teeth.
