Retainer question...??

Question:
i just got my braces off and my ortho said to wear my retainer in for everyday and night for 6 weeks, and then wear it at night for the rest of my life. the problem is i go swimming everyday for almost the whole day, and im suppose to take my retainer out if im swimming. what should i do?i dont have my retainer in for half of the day, and its suppose to only be out of my mouth if im eating or swimming.?help!!

Answers:
First of all, calm down. Don't wear them when you swim then. Just make sure that you have them so when you get out of the pool you can put them on as soon as you're done. The most important part though is to wear them when you're sleeping. So as long as you do that, you'll be fine.
I don't think that your teeth would shift just from not wearing for half a day. Just make sure that everytime you can, you wear it.

Good Luck !
I used to swim with my retainer in. That was in 1980, though. Maybe they are made differently today. Is it plastic and wire?
i wore mine all day for 6months-1yr.
then i wore it for 6 months at night only.
now i havent worn it in 5 years and my teeth are still straight, bcz they got use to it from what i did before :-P
i hardly ever wore my retainer during the day, but i always made sure to wear it at night, and my teeth didnt move at all. everybodys teeth are different. if you start to see your teeth moving a lot due to your retainer not being in enough then you'll have to stop swimming a little. once you start wearing the retainer again it will straighten your teeth right out. good luck!
its ok to have them in when u swim but u should take them out when u eat and when u brush ur teeth
