Anyone had their root canal tooth pulled out?

Hi! The only problem with a root canaled tooth is it is hollow and can break off easier than an intact tooth. But then again, the only intact teeth we take out are for braces or wisdom teeth. Since this is a routine procedure (most unrestored root canals break and need to be removed at some point) we have special instruments that elevate the root tips and the removal is easier today than ever. The extraction site will be sore for 3-5 days so follow the post-op directions to the letter. No smoking or sucking on straws and do not rinse for 24 hours. YOU must take your pain meds and use ice packs and sleep with an extra pillow for a day or so. Less swelling, less pain, so use the ice packs. Eat very soft, cool or cold foods for 1-3 days and NO pizza, bagels or chewy or sticky foods for 5 days. The procedure takes from 10-20 minutes after you are numb and this very rarely takes even that if we can elevate the tooth and then gently twist and turn it. I promise you will be fine and this will become a former memory. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie
If you are getting a tooth that had a root canal pulled out that tells me two things.
1) you didn't get it filled or crowned like you were suppose to.
2)You wasted your money on a root canal
After you are numb you shouldnt feel anything put pressure. Patients often confuse pressure sesnsations as pain. They will wiggle the tooth back and forth until it gets loose and then pull it out. Worse case senario the tooth breaks (because it is weakened byt he RCT) and they will have to surgically remove it using a high speed drill- not a big deal... makes a lot of noise.. but doesn't hurt.
It only takes seconds to extract a tooth, and a root canal tooth is not different than a healthy tooth, no it is not painful, you will be given a injection of Novocaine.
First off Root Canal is not a tooth,
it is the roots of all the teeth in your gums
It doesn't really hurt it is more of a uncomfortably feeling but the dentist numbs your mouth so all you feel is him tugging and prodding around in there, Time it takes depends on how much they plan to do, it is usually done within 30 minutes.
I haven't had this done but have seen alot of them being done. Because the tooth that had a root canal is now weaker it is sometimes a bit harder to take out because it sometimes breaks in many pieces when the dental takes it out (espcially if its a molar) but most times it just comes right out, so don't fret. In order to prevent this happening again, I would suggest getting a crown within a year of getting a root canal if you ever get another one. That'll help keep your tooth going for years to come.
since when is a "root canal" a tooth? its a procedure, and they just remove the root, not the whole tooth, cause those are two different prodcedures. When is the dentist not painful? Even having your teeth cleaned hurts. Only the drilling to find the root hurts, but after he/she finishes, the rest isnt as painful, but still gives me a headache afterwards.
