Trypnophobia(fear of injections and needles) and dentist procedures?
Question:

First , they can try to do the procedure without getting you numb. It may be a long shot, but who knows-it may not hurt.
Take an ipod or cd player with headphones to play while they're numbing you ( if it comes down to it). Also, ask your dentist if they can "pre-medicate" you with some valium. Most dentists don't have a problem with that. It will relax you. You take a pill the night before, then maybe 2 more the day of the appt. Also, ask for "topical" anesthetic, which is a jelly they put on your gums first to numb it a little before they give you the injection. It works. I know it's hard, but try to relax and let them do the best they can. Good luck.
In dental school, we're taught to pass all instruments, including the syringe, under the chin so the patient doesn't see it. Most people have a fear of needles, which is why all the instruments are passed under your chin. Who honestly wants to see what is being put in their mouth? I'm pretty sure if I pass the syringe and the patient could see it, I'd be fired. Your gingiva (gums) will be numbed with a topical gel, so you won't really feel the needle, not to mention you'd be reclined. Don't worry. :)
