What Percent % of Hydrogen Peroxide Should I use to gargle % whiten teeth with?

Question:
I've Heard that gargling with Hydrogen Peroxide is "good" for oral hiegein, because it kills bacteria in the mouth and also whitens the teeth. I've read about the safety etc (Dont Swallow!) but was wondering what strength to buy? I don't want one too weak, but don't want to burn or irritate my mouth either. Just want a bacteria free white smile! :) Thanks!

Answers:
Colgate Peroxyl is 1.5% hydrogen peroxide & is in shops.
I think it might oxidise light staining from the teeth.

Pharmacists sell 9% solutions but they advise to use diluted, as it is caustic to human tissues.
The burns caused on the mucosa (pink bits to you) do fade within a few hours.

Carbamide peroxide which is used to bleach teeth professionally contains the equilavent of around 2 to 3% hydrogen peroxide. Applied for about 4 hours daily on teeth. As a mouthwash it will burn your mucosa as well as bleaching your teeth. If you only use for a few seconds it won't affect the enamel enough to give lasting whiteness.

Trial & error maybe, like all pioneering science.

JESUS Your Crazy

Please dont do this
try caustic soda
27%
2-3 %
Just the regular bottle at the store. It leaves a freaking awful taste in your mouth, but it does feel clean after wards. Call your dentist and ask them, would probably be the most professional answer that you could get. After all, they went to school for this stuff.
2%. To help soften the placque on your teeth, kill oral bacteria, and is a good source of potassium, take approx. 20 cc's of 1/4 cider vineager, 3/4 water, swish it around your mouth for about 15 secs, then without tooth paste, scrub your teeth, especially by the gums, rinse your mouth, then brush with whitening tooth paste. You will have really clean feeling teeth. Give it a shot.
DON'T! if your that desperate try bicarbonate soda. use on a toothbrush as normal with a little water. only use this once a week though as can reck your teeth.

hydrogen peroxide will hurt your mouth, burn it!!
Use the lowest percentage but you must use the same amount of water. Don't just rinse with the peroxide.
yea use a very small amount, that is acid, too much of it will screw up your mouth
NONE! You should not do that, because it will damage all your mouth tissues, don't do that, go and ask your dentist for whitening procedures, it cost a little bit more, but it's safer and you won't suffer later ;)
There are various strengths,so use the mix advised on the bottle.
crikey..dont ask us - ask you dentist...hydrogen peroxide is bleach isnt it?? - i would NOT do that..it can erode your teeth..get proper advice!
Between 2 and 5 % molar solution. Pharmacist will advise - and ask you what you want it for! - as it is an oxidant in higher concentrations, eg: as sodium peroxide, and is used to make explosives (chemists have to sign declaration of never to use their knowledge for illegal purposes, so that is all you get!).
You should never use hydrogen peroxide as it is to whiten teeth. The trouble is it will kill the good bacteria in your mouth as well as the bad and can stop the functioning of the saliva glands which is quite important to the balance of your mouth. You can also "burn" your mouth with the chemicals and it really DOESN'T help whiten the teeth anyway.

I had a friend who had heard this too and tried it. The results were not good! Let's just say he could only eat thin soups via a straw for at least 2 weeks after trying it.
its bleach don't do it, there was a woman in today's paper that almost died by drinking coke that had been washed in bleach, it will burn your throat, larynx and lungs.
