MS is characterized by the loss of the myelin on the myelin sheaths that transmit nerve impulses. It is a demyelinating disease. Chronic inflammation of the CNS is a widespread term for anything causing inflammation of that area. Thus anything from a slipped disc causing a spinal cord impingment and inflammation to a brain tumor could fall under the umbrella of chronic inflammation of the cns.
