Is it acceptable to wash and re-use colostomy bags?
Answers:
No- they should not be washed and reused as this can result in infection. You should use a new one each time it is changed.

It depends on the type of bag you have. If they are the kind that detach and rehook on then yes, it is ok to reuse. You have to make sure you cleanse it properly before reattaching. You will have the choice of either a one- or a two-piece system. There is no better system - it is simply a matter of what you prefer. Both types are drainable, meaning that you can undo the tie or clip at the bottom of the pouch and empty it as needed. Bags can also be disposable (ie are thrown away once they are finished with) or reusable. There are also some non-adhesive systems available which do not have a wafer which adheres to the skin. These are especially helpful for those who have problems with allergies from the wafer material.

No, use new bags. We are talking about feces here -- full of bacteria. Sorry about the expense, but avoid the risk of infection and save yourself time by using new bags.

Wash them well and dissinfect them and you should be fine!Is the SED rate always elevated in multiple myeloma patients?
I would definetly not reuse them. They would still have residue bacteria and could cause serious infection. So long as you are using them on the same person, and they are disinfected correctly. If they are NOT clean enough, you are opening up for the potential of a MASSIVE INFECTION.

Most colostomy bags are reusable. They need to be cleaned and be sure to keep your stoma area clean to ward off infection. There are disposable and re-usable bags, check your packaging or if your skin nurse/MD applied it, check with them as to what type of bag you have.
