Picramnia pentandra, bitter bush, is an evergreen shrub ten to fifteen feet tall. Dark green, pinnate leaves set off large, pendant clusters of fruit, which are green at first, then red and finally black. Native to South Florida and the West Indies, it is an excellent choice for a hammock planting or an open area among ground covers and trees. It may be grown in shade to full sun.
