Is there a specific type of OCD (obsessive-comp. disorder) which involves a fear of drugs?
Question:
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Answers:
That is me to a "T". For a long time I was afraid and never told anyone. Recently I shared this with my therapist and I was refereed to a Psychiatrist. I am now taking zoloft and going through CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy). It has helped, but it is by no means gone. I cannot touch my food. It does not matter how many times I wash my hands, because even the soap alone is a contaminant. I no longer can pump gas for fear of any gasoline getting on my hands.
I am not a doctor by any means, but I have done a lot of research. It took a lot of hard work from my doctor to even get me on Zoloft and I asked that very question. This is what I was told. The "O" (Obsession) in this is being obsessed with contamination and the "C" compulsion would be avoiding it or frequent washing of hands. I do both. I also suffer from paranoia. I will not leave my drink unattended for fear of poisoning. I suggest that you find a Psychiatrist in your area and get tested. Also, visit the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH). This is a very useful site.

Sure! OCD can involve a fear or compulsion about any number of things. If you really REALLY find yourself worried about it ALL the time, you should talk with your doctor about it. OCD is hard to live with, but is VERY treatable.
Yeah, that sounds more like paranoia then OCD..
Pharmacophobia- Fear of taking medicine.
