Does Vitamin B 12 help a hangover?
Question:

*This might be a lot more than what you wanted to know, but I thought I would tell you how to REALLY cure a hangover. Besides I'm not doing anything better right now.* :) **Before you scroll through all this in a flash, I really just wrote this all for you right now on 12/30/05 at 11:00pm (I didn't copy and past any of it). So, take a minute to actually read it.
Well, taking a vitamin B12 supplement might help a little, but there's a lot more you can do to help the hangover.
First you have to look at what causes a hangover. The things that cause a hangover include dehydration, low blood sugar, the chemical by-products that alcohol leaves in your system, and depletion of vitamins and minerals (vitamin B12 is one of the many).
1.Alcohol is a diuretic. That means it makes the body lose water (that's why people pee a lot more when they drink). So, one of the biggest things you can do to help a hangover is DRINK LOTS OF WATER. *Although coffee might help wake you up the next morning DON'T DRINK IT! Caffeine in coffee is also a diuretic. So, it will dehydrate your body more.
2. Alcohol also can make your blood sugar level low. So eat some fruit or drink juice or a sports drink to bring up your blood sugar. *You ever seen the word "electrolyte" on a Gatorade bottle? It's basically a tecnical term for sugar in the blood and the drink is supposed to help bring a balance to your electrolyte levels (blood sugar).
3. As for chemical by-products that the alcohol leaves in your system. Hmm.. Ever heard of "detox"? That's when you flush out the toxic stuff in your body. In this case the "toxic stuff" would be be alcohol. There's a lot of things you can buy in the store that claim to be a "detoxifying" product. Well, I wouldn't waste my money or time on that. Drinking lots of water and eating healthy is the best natural way to clean out those bad chemicals from the body. *Eat a bunch of raw fruits, vegetables, and whole grain stuff.
4. Okay finally to the Vitamin/Mineral part. Basically TAKE A MULTIVITAMIN the day after. Because alcohol makes you pee so much, you're not only losing a lot of the body's water but it's taking vitamins and minerals from your body as well. You lose a bunch more than just vitamin B12 so take a supplement that has a wide variety of vitamins and mineral (aka multivitamin).
**Final note: If you puked (vomited) at all during the night or next morning, it's your body's way of saying you had WAY TOO MUCH ALCOHOL! This will make you extra dehydrated, skrew up your blood sugar even more, and take a bunch of important vitamins and minerals out of your body.
---I hope I didn't say too much but I think it's all really important and can really help when you feel tore up the next day :). Have a Happy new year and don't drink too much. Now you can help your friends with there hangovers as well!
