I would first look at making dietary changes especially when it comes to dietary fat choices. A diet low in fat is helpful, because the gallbladder emulsifies dietary fat so the less it has to work (within limits), then the chances of you developing an episode as often, should decrease.
Surgical removal is the answer, and the gallstones are removed along with the gall bladder. Laproscopic surgery is available, which is less cumbersome and you recover fast thereafter. Delay for surgery may end up in a small stone getting dislodged from the gall bladder and obstructing the bile duct or the pancreatic duct’s opening, thereby leading to complications.
Well, it depends if you are considered overweight or not.
If you are, and you feel that you can't drop at least 10-20 lbs to relieve symptoms then you will have to have gallbladder surgery. Which is really no big deal. Only took me a few days to heal from it.
But if you are normal weight, you should consult a dr., b/c if you have a stone lodged in your duct to the stomach, you can develop gangrene and die.
surgery is NOT the #1 answer unlike some of the answers that have already been posted! a proper diet is very important, and there is also a gallbladder/liver detox that can be performed that can help to expel stones. I will attach a website to a chiropractor that has the gallbladder/liver detox protocol, it is not my favorite chiropractic website, but it is an accurate "recipe" to detox.

just be aware that if you do go through with surgery, you can very easily continue to experience symptoms b/c when you remove the gallbladder, there is no longer a place to concentrate the bile b/c the gallbladder acts as a storage and concentrator of bile produced by the liver. i would perform the detox prior to surgery, and i would also suggest to make sure you do so on a weekend or when you have some time off so you don't have to run off to work or something.

with regards to you diet, be sure to avoid fatty foods, especially fried foods, and dairy products can also make your symptoms worse.

fyi, i've had my gallbladder symptoms treated chiropractically, they actually pressed on my gallbladder to help to empty it, and also worked on accupressure points associated with the gallbladder. the last time i had a bad attack, i also saw an accupuncturist and had accupuncture done and was prescribed some herbs to make a tea out of which was also very helpful for me. losing weight and watching my diet are my current preventative methods for keeping everything in check!
good luck!
I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse and I have had mine removed. You can have treatment via sound waves, they can dissolve them with tablets it takes about a year but this depends on what the stone is made from and how big they are. The usual treatment is complete removal of the gall bladder. Any more info required my address is at the bottom
