My Dear Friends,
In order to answer our friend's question, I believe that we must find the source of the issue. To do so I will raise a series of questions that will then me answered by my own self.
Why does it seem to be that water, breezes, grass, the sun etc... are sources that make us feel calm? What is stress or other-like afflictions? How can breathing, yoga or other similar physiological movements help us meditate and release stress?
I am certain all our learned friends on the WWW would notice, the main topics of the first question are all related to nature; the natural manifestation bestowed to us by the universe. We must understand, that in this world that we comprehend, there exist negative and positive energies - some may call it night and day, ying and yang, male and female; they all refer to the same concept. However, never forget that there are those things that are neutral, even in species this concept has been proven by modern science. It can be understood that these manifestations of the true Universe, if not positive, they are at least neutral.
By visualising positive, neutral or negative things, the messages absorbed by our phsyical life, mental life and even spiritual life. This is what leads to our feelings of stress, anger, happiness, sorrow etc. However, The Lord Buddha not only taught us how to liberate ourselves from these sufferings, but also showed us the concrete methods - meditation. Please do not forget that Buddhism is not just a philisophy, but in fact, it is a way of life; a method in which to regulate your life to same frequency as the posiitve energy of the universe.
I could go on longer and longer and longer about the way this works, however, I believe what you really wish to know is how to get rid of stress - what can you do?
Simple, visualise things related to the positive aspects of life. You need not sit down and meditate like most people stereotypicalise, on your way to school you can sit on the bus and visualise something you feel had prominent positive meaning. However, I must warn that you must also ensure that these are pure and clean thoughts. For example, if you have a boyfriend/girlfriend and you feel positive about them, but in your mind you start having sexual fanatasies or the likes, then you would only bring upon yourself more anxiety and troubles.
Please try visualising a lotus flower, the radiant sun, clouds, compassion, peace, joy, harmony and most importantly untainted love.
I hope I have managed to assist you through means of a Buddhist aspect, and if I have unintentionally offended others, please educate and criticise my folly.
In Dharma,
vhy~

of course meditation is awesome ...try simply sitting in a dark quiet room eyes closed think of peaceful settings like a quiet bubbling stream or gently swaying field of grass but most important is focus during meditation , no distractions whether self initiated or otherwise....also try some lavender extract from a health food store it has a natural calming affect simply smell directly from the bottle before and during meditation .. Good Luck in school ...remember ....FOCUS...you'll be fine
It depends on what you're comfortable with. For me, I don't formally engage in meditation to relax, but I do sometimes go for long walks by myself just to disengage from things. I also like to lie down in the dark and listen to the sound of water flowing on special CD's, or if you have one of those small indoor water fountains, that works too. Having something to manipulated in your hands while doing this, like a stressball, a chunk of clay, or dry sand in a bowl also helps. Good luck, and just remember, you're still young--it's just high school. Bigger things lie ahead!
there are a lot of different types of meditation...
the thing most people get caught up in is trying to "stop thinking"... the thing is that you will still have thoughts when you meditate... they may be less often of just less stressful... you may still think about the things that stress you out too.
one wonderful way to meditate is to focus on your breathing. focus on the breath, inhale & exhale, ... then it's easier to not notice your thoughts... when thoughts arise, let them pass by like leaves on a river or stream... and label them "thinking" or just tell yourself "oh that's just thinking" & then return to inhaling & exhaling.
it's very soothing.
good luck.
I have done a lot of different types of meditation over about 20 yrs & find this the best for me.
you can go to the library or buy some books as well, to investigate other methods, but they are all pretty similar in the end.
yoga, classical music, walking, fruits and veg are all good
Send me your email address and I will send you a copy of my own recording which can be played on windows or other media players. It is a guided meditation loosely based on a Tibetan Buddhist technique called 'TU MO' which when practised has many health benefits and is also designed to relieve stress.
This is free of charge, if you wish to, you can make a donation to any charity of your choice.
for a very potent online experience that will help you relax and balance out your internal energy try: www.sahajayoga.com. also, it's been arranged that if you repeat softly the word relax in a mantra like way, you will find that very effective :-)
