is coral calcium a healthy substitute for "regular" calcium?

Question:
I've been on this low carb diet for about a month and my joints and muscles are starting to ache a bit (I've been walking more for the whole month, but I don't think I was walking enough to make anything ache), and I was wondering whether its a lack of calcium. I used to drink a bunch of milk but now I probably drink one tenth of what I was drinking... I was thinking to get some those caramel calcium chewy things they sell in the Pharmacy, but I'm really just guessing... anyone else have an idea what it might be? I'm thinking it might be related to the protein protein protein diet, but I don't know that for sure either.
Anyway, I have coral calcium pills that I've been taking very sporadically and was wondering if I should be more consistent with those and see what happens...

Answers:
coral calcium is pretty much just expensive calcium.
calcium citrate is what you need-- it is the most absorbable form of calcium.
most people need 1000-1500 mg/day.
muscle pain can come from low level dehydration (have you been drinking enuf water/juice/ milk/ etc?) as well as not getting proper calcium & magnesium- these minerals are essential for muscle function.
just take something every day.
sporadic calcium isn't going to help you; take it every day. Be sure it also has Vitamin D, which is necessary for the absorption of calcium.
