Do you notice most or all herbal supplement bottles say this in little tiny writing at the bottom....?
Question:
For example i have some Milk Thistle and it says 'helps promote liver function' on the bottle. there's no way to prove it really does anything, is hebal supplements and herbal stores (like in malls) a big money scam?
Answers:
No, there is no scam. Many drugs are made from herbs as well, but there are other processes involved. Some are synthetics. But FDA will not approve herbal medicine itself because there is no money to be made in it. They cannot patent something from nature. Drug companies are about politics. So is FDA. Many herbal supplements work real well. A long time user of herbal supplements. Many herbs help with no side effects, but herbs can also be toxic too. You have to make sure you don't overdose. Get a herbal bible that explains what the herbs do and doses. It also explains when you should not take the herbs for particular medical conditions. There is a great website online called Native Remedies. They have excellent products and people to speak to who can advise you on the right products for your conditions. Good luck.
many herbal supplements do what the bottles say they do... there are real research studies out there ( http://pubmed.com go type in something in the search bar on top- these journals are true medical journals)
The FDA does NOT regulate or evaluate supplements, so they have to put that little statement on the bottle if they make a health claim.
