Help! Im beng under medicated!?

Question:
I was in a terrible car accident 2 years back. I am better. But at my job, i work 10 hours a day and i cant get up do to what my job consists of. So i have to eat at my desk and the only timei can get up is to pee. But sometimes (like twice a month) i get excruciating back pain where im crying. I have taken every muscle relaxer and meds out there. The only meds to help me is vicodin. But my other doctor retired, now its a pain (literally) finding a doc that will give it to me. they are always giving me percocets and stuff. they dont work. What should i say to finally convince them to listen to me! Geeze!

Answers:
I have had chronic back pain for many years. I do not like having to take pain medication unless I am in dire need. This past winter was bad and I was having many of those days that you spoke of. I have a chiropractor and a massage therapist as well as I do hydrotherapy. These do help me but I added a physiotherapist who specializes in core body training (pilates) this spring and I am having great success. The important thing is to be able to improve your quality of life and if you have a doctor that is not helping than you may need to find other alternatives. In the meantime you could try asking the doctor to prescribe you only a small amount such as a dozen to show them that you are not overusing the pills. If you do not need a refill for a few months this could make the doctor more comfortable with prescribing them. Good luck.

If you are still in so much pain that you need narcotics 2 years after the accident, you should go to a pain management doctor. There are so many things other than narcotics that can really help your back pain, water therapy, trigger point injections, massage therapy.

Narcotics are for short term use, not for years.
Sounds to me like your hooked. Must not be better if your still taking pain medication. Go to a pain management clinic and see what they can do for you. Your Doctor can also give you back exciseses to do. Quit pacifying your pain with pills and get off your *ss and exercise.
Read the information and testimonials on my page. I may be able to help you.
Ava, it is time to see your Chiropractor. Your pain is NOT caused by a drug deficiency. A good Chiropractor will help you understand the cause of your pain and work with you to treat the cause. Treating the cause is always more effective than treating the symptoms.

Best wishes and good luck.
I wouldn't recommend using drugs to help with pain as addiction is far worse. You can use ice and other alternatives. However: I have had great success helping clients with chronic pain and injury using Biofeedback therapy. Biofeed back helps the body to relax and heal itself.
