Expired Medication?

Question:
I have expired pain relievers... the actual expiration on the label is 04/25/06 which was quite a long time ago... I noticed after I had taken one and it still feels like there was relief... it this just a placebo effect or do they last past the expiration date?

Answers:
The expiration date on medication is the latest date on which 100 percent strength is assured. The medication does not become useless on that date, but afterwards may reduce in effectiveness. One type of medication called Tetracyclines (Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Oxytetracycline, etc) are NOT to be taken after expiration due to the danger of dangerous side effects. I cannot, due to my profession, advise you to take expired medications, but I can tell you that I have done so.
yes
