Alternative medicine?

Question:
Please tell me what kinds of alternative medicines you've used and if they were effective. Thanks!

Answers:
This is a very general question. What you really want to look for is Alternative Medicine/Healing Modalities. There are many ways for the body/mind/spriit to heal when it is given the appropriate tools and encouragement.

With alternative medicine, you, the patient/client must become educated and take responsiblity for your health. You become a pro-active partner with your health care practitioner. This is crucial for achieving optimum health and well-being. It is a much different situation than is found in the typical allopathic MD's office.

Some alternative healing modalities are: nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, accupuncture, detoxification of the tissues and organs via vitamin and chelation IV drips, nutrient supplementation; all types of bodywork--therapeutic massage, shiatsu, deep tissue massage, osteopathic manual manipulation, chiropractic; movement therapies--Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique. yoga, t'ai chi, chi kung; spiritual practices--meditation, shamanic practices, the list goes on.

Personally, I've been involved in many of these modalities for 25 years. I have had the great good fortune to have found some outstanding practitioners that have enabled me to achieve and maintain my health and well-being.

In the end--we are all responsible for our health and it's a very positive step you're taking in inquiring about natural healing modalities.

There is a ton of information out there and it can get to be very confusing. Finding a competent and experienced health care professional--holistically-ori. MD, clinical nutritionist, naturopathic physician, osteopathic physician, accupuncturist, etc may be of great value in taking care of yourself and preventing serious degenerative diseases.

Allopathic medicine (the medicine practiced by most doctors) definitely has its place. Allopathic medicine is excellent in emergencies/trauma, surgical procedures and acute/life-threatening illnesses. It basically works (in illnesses) by treating symptoms and not causes and uses surgery (sometimes necessary) and drugs as its tools. It has a dismal record concerning the treatment and prevention of chronic and degenerative diseases.

It is important to remember to not "throw the baby out with the bath water." Everything has its place, time and purpose.

Below are some soures that may be of help in your quest.

Wishing you Excellent Health
cranberry juice or cranberry pills for kidney or bladder infections. red raspberry leaf tea to help with period cramps.
I've used a home remedy called Indian Mud. It's good for removing skin cancers, some moles. Taken internally, it's a colon cleanser and a cancer preventive and it cured my son's cancer and did away will all his tumors.
homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs, energy psychology, chakra balancing, meditation. They were all effective for the things that needed my attention. The important thing is respecting these treatments as seriously as you would any other medical intervention. Natural or alternative does not automatically equal safe (although they are often more safe and gentle than conventional interventions). See a naturopathic doctor to get some good overview.
Garlic to boost the immune system. Cod liver oil if ever I've had a problem with face, hair, skin or nails. Tea tree oil I used on a verrucha I had for seven years, which nothing else would take away .. it was gone in a week. Overdosing on Euchenacia as soon as I felt a cold coming on and it dried me up quickly. St John's Wort and Bach's rescue remedy when I used to suffer from depression and panic attacks. All were very effective.
