Can chiropractors help cure insomnia?

Question:
I've had insomnia for years, i'm tried lots of precription sleep medicine, but i get side affects or it wears off. I'd really like to be able to sleep normally without a ton of chemicals..i'm going to see a chiropractor later, but can they really help?

Answers:
I am a chiropractor, but honestly, I will tell you that you have to ask someone WHY they dont sleep.... if it's due to stress, hormones, marital problems, depression etc... you gotta work on that to get to the underlying cause (I get insomnia too sometimes for a number of reasons)...
Yes, chiropractic can be relaxing, but in & of itself, it wont fix your insomnia.
We may be able to give you some exercises to relax your muscles if pain keeps you awake & help adjust your spine to correct spinal problems causing pain too...
if depression or anxiety is the problem, well, that's out of our realm. often the mind wanders & sort of spins like a hamster on a wheel...
gotta calm it down.
try relaxation CDs or meditation before bedtime.

acupuncture may help this... maybe your chiropractor does this too & combine the therapies.

hope this helps.

Other Answers:
yes.

If I'm not aligned I sleep very poorly if at all.
If I have the money, I would hire a chiropractor cure insomnia by massaging your lower lumbar and your upper lumbar region in order to eliminate all the tension that might be effecting you at a day-to-day basis involving traffic jams, bad manners, and your boss being as angry as angry can be when it comes to you shirking off your responsibilities as an employee for some company in a large metropolitan area like either New York City or Los Angeles!
i've had insomnia too. what is chiropractors? it really can help?
First, find out the cause of your insomnia. It may not be a spinal problem. May be you are quite stressed up over little things or have been taking too much caffine before bed-time. If all these possibilities are eliminated, then it can be due bad mattress and/or pillow. If yes, get a good bed and pillow which supports your back, like King Kohl. The last person you should see is the chiropractor when all fails. You may be suffering from a spinal problem. That's when he can help correct your sleep disorder.
I've never heard of it helping insomnia, but it wouldn't hurt. There are some good links below. I had insomnia for 2 years after a period of a lot of stress. I tried everything, to no avail. Thankfully I am finally sleeping again, and hope you will too!
