If your feeling so much pain that two extra strength tylenol don't help you I would think youneed to see a doctor. Taking too many can really do a job on your stomach and just leave you with more health problems. You CAN take the extra one but don't make it a habit. See a doctor. Good Luck

I don't know about how many you are already taking but I take 800mgs (of motrin) but it is still 800 miligrams

The worst that can happen is liver damage(which is really bad), especially if you drink alcohol. If you have chronic pain see a doctor who will recommend a pain management specialist.
Exceeding the maximum dose has no increased effect on pain relief. The maximum dose is the amount of medicine that your body can absorb safely, any more than the recommended dose can be very harmful to your liver. Prescription versions of over the counter medication with higher doses are designed to release measured quantities of the medication over a longer period of time, not to overpower the pain...Taking a like dose of pills not designed for timed release is dangerous.
Three regular tylenol (325mg) is the same as taking two extra-strength (500mg). It will work slightly better.
Tylenol, acetaminaphen, is poisonous if you get too much. However, 2 325 mg is only 650 mg. An extra strength is 500mg and you can take 2 of those. Dont take them more often than every 4 hours. But you can take an asprin based product such as motrin, ibuprofen, at the alternate 2 hours for pain.

Any/all drugs can be toxic if taken over the rec commended amounts. Even over-the-counter pain medications can cause liver damage or other serious problems.
A lot might depend on a person's body weight and metabolic rate. Bigger people sometimes need bigger doses to achieve the levels of medicine in the bloodstream needed for the drug to take effect. Only a doctor/pharmacist is qualified to advise about this as well...
Also, using more than the recommended amount might mean you are building up a resistance to the effect of the drug. Maybe a switch to another OTC pain reliever would help.... Again, only a doc or pharmacist is qualified to give specific advice.
the safe dose even for perscription tylenol is 8 extra strength pills but if you take too much over a long period it can shut your liver down. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL if you take the perscription amount because it will increase the chance of your liver failing. also, if you are having to take that much pain med. you should get yourself checked out. they can give you stronger safer stuff. you can also try advil or asprin which have less liver damaging effects.

Tylenol or Acetamenophen metabolises in the liver, thats why there are so many new warnings now, there was before but they are making them more known now. It is the most common over the counter drug to overdose on and people do die because they've taken too much. It depends on your body though and how it handles it, like that person who takes 4....if he/she takes tylenol a lot they'll end up having problems with the liver, even liver failure, too much acetamenophen is not good for the body. Tylenol is in a lot of cold medications/products and you dont know it unless you read the tiny print for the ingredients.I read in a pharmacist magazine once that a college kid in Minnesota was sick with the flu, his roommate saw him drink some Thera Flu and also took some kind of Tylenol Cold product, he left,came back and he was dead....liver failure.Thera Flu contains Acetamenophen (tylenol).
If it's not working for you...you've probably already taken the 3rd pill now, but in the future I suggest Aleve or Motrin, Advil (if you dont have an nsaid allergy), you can take those with the tylenol, completely different drug classes,but both for pain. 2 extra strength tylenol never work for me, so I take 1 Aleve and it makes a huge difference.
