food to cure increased cholesterol?

This may get long and bloated but I have over a decade of experience helping people with this. Here goes. Your cholesterol gets high for two reasons. One is your diet and lifestyle and the other is dear ol' Mom and Dad. Can't do anything about those guys but you can do something about the gift they gave and the life you live. The National Cholesterol Guidelines recommend (but I rarely see this done) to use dietary measures to bring it down first. Most of the docs I work with don't do that. They go right for the statin drugs. I'm not personally a big fan of those. Too many side effects that aren't fun including the 3-4 trips a year to the doc for blood tests to make sure it's not hurting your liver. The dietary guidelines recommend reducing dietary intake of cholesterol. They also suggest adding dietary fiber (a really boring subject) and plant sterols that mimic cholesterol in the system and takes it's place. Cheap Walmart fiber (psyillium, etc) is basically potty powder. Helps you go to the bathroom better. Good fiber is a blend of several and includes guar which has a lot of research behind it for it's ability to deal with cholesterol. One side benefit is a good fiber can help stabilize blood sugar and for Type II diabetics this good news. It slows the gastric emptying time and levels off the spikes that food can give. There are a couple of good ones out there. One has undergone some mfg changes so I'm not sure of the quality anymore. Hope this helps. Jeff the nurse in Nashville.

BTW...there is no cure for it. Only treatment. Don't fall for that one if you're hearing it.
