Yes, that is why they add things to the tobacco. You can buy additive free cigarettes. They generally cost more but possibly worth it. My grandpa smoked all of his life with no harmful side effects because there wasn't anything added for alot of years he smoked.

Yes, I tried rolling my own for a while to save money vs buying my usual brand, and I still went through withdrawl. I had to give up the rolling because I missed the chemicals so much. So glad I finally quit smoking altogether!

Yea I like some additives though. I like getting papers, going to the tinder box and getting some shag tobacco with some tasty pipe tobacco and rolling my own unfiltered. They also sell "blunt wraps" so you can roll your own cigars with the pipe tobacco. Good stuff.
