When you are given anesthesia it is a controlled drug overdose that puts you one the threashold of death.

When ever you go for surgery the Anesthesiologist will visit you before surgery, that is your time to ask any questions.

How ever if the surgeon messes up the chances are that it can be corrected.

Not sure what you're asking here.but if you want to know how an anesthetist's drugs work, I can give you a little info.

In medicine, typically before a patient can be intubated for surgery (or in an emergency situation in the field, as paramedics would do), a common type of drug that will be used is a neuromuscular blocking agent. All of your muscles are stimulated by receptors that are activated by neurotransmitters (chemicals) released by the nerves that innervate the muscle. These blocking agents basically prevent the neurotransmitters from stimulating the muscles, so the body becomes paralyzed. Typical drugs used in this application include succinylcholine and mivacurium chloride. Some are based off of "curare" which is a chemical that has been used for centuries in hunting. It's what early hunters put on the tips of their arrows and spears to take down large game (so I've been told).

This is of course only one example of an anesthetist's medication therapy. There are local anesthetics, topical anesthetics, etc.
General anasthetic can leave you depressed for days afterwards this is a recognised fact in the hospital my mother was in, though not everyone will suffer. My sister suffered from this the first time she was put under, and then not operated on, but not the second, when she was.My mum was fine the first two times but the third time she became terribly upset.Just recognise that it is possible for this to happen, and that it won't last,if you or yours experience this.
